LockDown Browser should only be used for taking Canvas quizzes; it should not be used in other areas of Canvas. The following are tips and fixes to common issues that students may encounter when using LockDown Browser or Respondus Monitor. Note: Take a picture or screen capture of any issues to help troubleshoot them later. The Environment Check is a part of the Startup Sequence where the student records the area where they are taking the exam to help ensure exam integrity.
The Environment Check should last about seconds — it should not be a quick 5-second recording. LockDown Browser will prevent you from accessing other websites or applications. Depending on the settings selected by your instructor, you may not be able to exit the test until all questions are completed and submitted.
LockDown Browser for Chromebook has exited the beta phase and is now available as a final release. The Chromebook extension additionally supports the Respondus Monitor proctoring application.
It is no longer necessary for instructors to enable the Chromebook option on a per exam basis. Be sure to indicate you are using LockDown Browser for Chromebook. Keep Teaching. However, proctored remote exams have several drawbacks : They are often even more stressful for students than in-person proctored exams, which can negatively impact student performance. LockDown Browser features do not address all access needs for students with approved accommodations. Prohibited behavior will automatically be "red flagged" and the instructor will make the determination if the academic integrity policy has been violated. A high-speed broadband Internet connection is necessary to take a Canvas exam in the Respondus Monitor system.
A minimum bandwidth of 2 Mbps is recommended Respondus Monitor. The most common reason a test would fail is a connectivity issue or a slow Internet connection. Canvas exams are ideally taken on a computer that is hardwired to a modem or router.
